Master・Doctoral Students

Introduction

Analytical skills applying statistics and econometrics are the most sought-after capabilities in the modern society. The mission of Noguchi’s laboratory is to train you being able to verify the hypothesis from your own research interests and derive a scientific evidence for what you want to know.
The major interest of this laboratory is to conduct quantitative analyses on health and public health, education, labor, social welfare and social security, from the view point of economics.
We have both students enrolled into Japanese and English programs, the guidance is conducted in both languages, as appropriate.

Teaching

Master students will conduct a hypothesis verification based on your own research questions. You have to go through a series of quantitative research, such as summarizing previous research, data collection and analysis, oral presentation, writing research paper or master thesis. Through this procedure, you will find a significant implication on the results and you may provide some evidence-based recommendations to the society and/or the policy.

Doctoral students will conduct a hypothesis verification based on your own research questions. Furthermore, we are asking you for active involvement into research projects conducted by Waseda Institute of Social and Human Capital Studies (WISH). WISH conducts interdisciplinary research activities aiming at the fusion of scientific research and its implementation to the real world, in collaboration with practitioners who work on various fields such as administrative and non-profit organizations, as well as, researchers inside and outside Waseda university (For more information on WISH, click here)

In principle, doctoral students are required to publish three articles in international academic peer-review journals for obtaining PhD. Besides, regardless of whether you are doctoral or master students, students who are challenging oral presentations at academic conferences and/or to submit papers to peer-review journals are more than welcomed. Noguchi’s laboratory would like to provide as much supports as possible to such students' aggressive attitudes toward academic activities.
